At this time of year I always feel fully justified being outside on a day like today, no matter how pressing other tasks might be. Two-year old Euan and I wandered down to the nature reserve, just to see what we could see...
Common darters, in tandem, on the pond, golden ringed dragonflies in the nature reserve, huge fat caterpillars about 6cm long seemingly searching for somewhere to pupate at the base of an oak tree, and speckled wood butterflies on the drying grass. And then, coming back and in the distance, a fox the colour of autumn beech leaves.
